Every Child Deserves Joy

Every child deserves to feel celebrated. Every child deserves moments of pure joy. And every child deserves to look back on their childhood and remember feeling loved.

For many children, those moments come easily. A cake appears. Friends come over. Someone takes the afternoon off and says, today is yours. For other children, that is not how the year goes. Rent comes first. Groceries come first. The car repair comes first. A birthday can slip by with a quiet “maybe next year,” even when a parent would give anything to throw a party.

We started Love and Luck • Love and Smiles because we live in that gap. Gold Canyon, Mesa, and the East Valley are full of good families doing their best. Some of them simply cannot stretch far enough for a zoo day, a cake, or a small celebration that says you matter. That is not a failure of love. It is a shortage of luck. Community can change that.

When we talk about joy, we do not mean a big production. We mean a child blowing out candles. We mean a family sitting together at an outing they did not have to skip. We mean one ordinary afternoon that a kid will still talk about when they are grown. Those are the memories that last.

This work is local on purpose. Donations stay in Maricopa County. They become birthday help, family activity outings, and community events that keep the door open for the next child. We are a registered 501(c)(3). Kate and Dave Spaeth answer the phone. If a family reaches out, a person answers.

If you have ever been the child who waited for a special day, you already understand. If you have ever been the parent who wanted to give one and could not, you understand even more. Your gift, your volunteer morning, your note of encouragement — none of it is small. It becomes someone else’s first good memory of being celebrated.

Every child deserves joy. Not because they earned it. Because they are children. That is enough.
